about.

"Injection" explores the paradox of human intervention in nature—actions meant to heal that simultaneously cause harm. This interactive installation uses the medical act of injection as a metaphor: something designed to restore health becomes, through wastewater discharge, a slow poison released back into the environment.

Participants physically enact this act of "injecting" and witness relief and damage unfold simultaneously, inviting reflection on how human systems built with good intentions can still leave lasting environmental costs—and how what we discharge into the world rarely disappears without consequence.

story.

Since the outbreak of COVID-19, injection has become a symbol of our pursuit of protection and healing. On August 24, 2023, Japan announced the injection of treated radioactive wastewater into the ocean.

While humans are being injected to stay healthy, the Earth is being injected with pollution. We may be healing as individuals. But when will the planet begin to heal?

Interaction

  • User input: Performer presses syringe against body

  • Feedback: Earth visual responds — pressure triggers pollution; heartbeat syncs image pulsing

  • Design focus: Embodied metaphor; one gesture represents both healing and harm

Tech Stack

  • Hardware: FSR402 pressure sensor, XD58C heart rate sensor

  • Software: TouchDesigner
