PolluInject
about.
“Injection” represents two opposing forces: one that heals and one that harms. This interactive installation metaphorically explores how human actions, intended for well-being, contribute to environmental pollution through wastewater discharge.
story.
Since the outbreak of COVID-19, injection has become a symbol of our pursuit of protection and healing. On August 24, 2023, Japan announced the injection of treated radioactive wastewater into the ocean.
While humans are being injected to stay healthy, the Earth is being injected with pollution. We may be healing as individuals. But when will the planet begin to heal?
detail.
Interaction
User input: Performer presses syringe against body
Feedback: Earth visual responds — pressure triggers pollution; heartbeat syncs image pulsing
Design focus: Embodied metaphor; one gesture represents both healing and harm
Tech Stack
Hardware: FSR402 pressure sensor, XD58C heart rate sensor
Software: TouchDesigner
Logic: Pressure = pollution visual injected into Earth; Heartbeat = image pulsates with user’s rhythm
