When God Arrives

about.

When God Arrives is a multisensory immersive VR experience inspired by Liu Cixin's short story Taking Care of God, asking what if the god who created humanity returned—not powerful and distant, but dying, weary, and in need of care.

Through immersive VR visuals, spatial sound design, and a custom wearable haptic feedback system, participants don't just observe this god's arrival but feel it, as familiar hierarchies dissolve and the once-powerful creator now depends on humanity for understanding, comfort, and rest. The piece invites reflection on presence, choice, and the fragile, shifting boundaries between power and dependency, creation and creator.

story.

A god arrives not in glory, but in exhaustion. He comes without commands, carrying only the weight of time. His presence is quiet—less an arrival than a return. Across three restrained encounters, we do not seek answers. We listen, hesitate, and choose. In a world where civilization is slowly fading into stillness, interaction becomes subtle, and meaning emerges through presence rather than action.

Gradually, the roles begin to shift. The creator no longer commands, but seeks rest. The human does not follow, but witnesses. This is not a story about divinity, but about release—about what remains when everything else falls away.

Experience Flow

Participants enter a three-chapter VR narrative where a dying god descends to humanity. The experience unfolds through cinematic sequences, subtle interaction, and moments of stillness: arrival, dialogue, and farewell. Player choices influence the emotional tone of the encounter rather than the plot, emphasizing presence over action.

Multisensory System

Visual storytelling in VR is combined with spatial sound and wearable haptic feedback backpack. Low-frequency vibrations, environmental audio, and voice work together to create a physical sense of the god’s presence, fragility, and fading existence—allowing participants to feel the story beyond what they see.
